It’s not easy being single in a big city on Valentine’s Day, especially if you are a penguin from the other side of the globe. But Roxy, a four-year-old rock hopper penguin from the sub-antarctic islands, and London Zoo’s most popular single female, has one consolation. She has been receiving Valentine’s Day cards from people from all over the UK.
Roxy was previously at Whipsnade Zoo, but was moved because she was disturbing the other penguins eggs.
Now she is one of the London Zoo’s most popular and beloved attractions, with her MySpace page showing she has 431 friends and counting.
A Friesian calf with a heart-shaped pattern on its forehead has been born in Japan, just in time for Valentine’s Day. The bull calf was born two weeks ago, on January 25th, at the Yamakun dairy farm in Fujisawa in the Kanagawa prefecture.
Kazunori Yamazaki, the owner of the dairy, said that it was not rare to find calves born with various patterns.
Still, it came as quite a surprise to find a such a clear outline of a heart on the calf’s forehead.
