Oil spills aren’t always found by environmental officials. Instead, the evidence of what’s known as a “ghost” spill can be read all over the backs of affected animals. Click on the video to learn more about how the International Fund for Animal Welfare stepped in to save a group of oiled, but plucky penguins earlier this spring.
The penguins were treated by the South African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds or SANCCOB.

There are two new additions to the African penguin population at the Mystic Aquarium. Two chicks were born recently and you can watch their progress on your computer through a web cam set up in the nesting room. At the moment they are not easy to see.

Most people think penguins need to live in the snow and cold. But in recent years, officials from the International Fund for Animal Welfare have been working with baby penguins from South Africa — rearing them by hand and releasing them back into the wild. IFAW’s Deputy Director of Programs A.J. Cady tells us more about this penguin rescue project.
