NECN’s Art Goody is joined by Christina Scala of the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, Massachusetts — who brings along with her Wilma, this adorable four-month-old puppy. Wilma is a rescue dog from Puerto Rico, and she is looking for a loving home. Her brother, Wilfred, is also at the shelter, and it would be so great for the two to be adopted together.
For more information on how to adopt, please call: (978) 745-9888 or visit: www.northeastanimalshelter.org.

Some animals at the Brookfield Zoo in Illinois got Halloween treats early this week. Gorillas and bears wasted no time chowing down on the pumpkins yesterday.
The tigers tossed them around like soccer balls and the polar bears just buried their noses in them.

There’s a place in Norton, Massachusetts where cats mingle with pigs, and llamas roam alongside horses. The Winslow Farm Animal Sanctuary is a place of redemption for animals who have been rescued from the most horrific circumstances, but now live the sweet life. From the very first greeting, you realize you’re entering a magical realm. Goats, swans and geese, horses, llamas, cats, pigs and sheep. All wander around with such friendly and curious expressions that you half expect them to shout: “hello friend! How are you?”
That’s not such a far fetched idea to Debbie White. White, who grew up in a log cabin next door-has always heard what the voiceless have to say. Her father-suffering from Parkinson’s-lost his ability to speak when she was just a girl. But he taught her to care for the underdog. And he gave her the skills to do it, like how to raise a barn. But her ability to connect with animals seems more like a gift than a lesson.

A mother bear and her two cubs climbed a tree in a nice neighborhood north of Sacramento, California, on Monday. The three black bears made themselves at home in Granite Bay. Neighbors say they’ve never see a bear this close before and hung around taking pictures.
After about nine hours, the bears climbed out of the tree and roamed the neighborhood looking for food. Wildlife officials left the bears alone saying they are getting ready for hibernation.
